WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR BOWFISHING CHARTER
As you explore the marsh, you’ll encounter a diverse range of marine life. Some of the species you might have the chance to target include redfish, flounder, gar, and drum, among others. In addition to fish, you’ll also see local wildlife such as American alligators, raccoons, Nutria, and a variety of birds.
A typical bowfishing trip lasts about 4-5 hours, so it’s a good idea to rest beforehand—you won’t want to take a break once the action starts! Bowfishing is an exciting and rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging. To help you make the most of your adventure, here are a few key tips:
AIM LOW
You’ll hear this phrase often during your trip! Because of water refraction, your target isn’t exactly where it appears. To compensate, aim a few inches below the fish. A helpful trick is to visualize a tennis ball beneath the fish’s belly and aim for that spot. The most common frustration in bowfishing is missing a shot—so remember, always aim low!
STAY AWARE
The water is constantly changing, and so is everything in it. Whether it’s a fish, a boat, or even you moving, things never stay still for long. Keep scanning your surroundings so you don’t miss any opportunities.
BE PATIENT
Take your time! Instead of rushing your shot, stay calm, breathe, line up your aim, and then release. Many people shoot too quickly, but waiting just a little longer often leads to a much higher success rate.
GET CLOSER WHEN POSSIBLE
Sometimes, a fish will remain in place long enough for you to move in. If this happens, lower your bow a little closer to the water before shooting. Even an extra 6 to 12 inches can make a big difference in your accuracy.
MOST IMPORTANTLY – HAVE FUN!
Bowfishing is a sport, and like any other, it’s meant to be enjoyed. It’s not just about hitting the target but also about the thrill of the experience. So relax, enjoy the adventure, and make some great memories on the water!
